How it all began…
Whipped Tallow Balm was born in South Georgia from very humble beginnings in 2021 when I was on the hunt for a solution for my eczema. I had heard of this thing called “tallow”, but was not very familiar with what it was, or how it was used to help skin-related problems.
When it became apparent that exactly none of the creams or lotions from the drugstore were helping to soothe my angry, itchy, irritated flare-ups —quite the contrary, they burned so badly that I had to stop using them! — I remembered that I had acquired some frozen raw tallow from a previous beef order from a local farmer.
Armed with this one ingredient and sheer determination, I began refining the tallow and experimenting with it in my home kitchen. After many hours of research, several failed attempts, ingredient swaps — and let’s not forget the vast amount of clean-up! — I finally landed on something that I was ready to test out.
Imagine my delight and excitement when…it actually worked. Mama’s Original Whipped Tallow Balm was born.
Once I started consistently experiencing such great results for myself, I began to reach for that balm for any and all skin ailments that we struggled with as a family.
My husband began using it for aftershave lotion on his neck, as well as on his chapped and sunburned lips — an unwelcome result of working long hours outside in the sun and wind. Any chafing from uncomfortable, sweaty work clothing was instantly soothed. Needless to say, he was sold. Even today, my husband is my biggest supporter and cheerleader!
And the kids? Everything seemed to benefit from tallow balm! Dry, rough skin, chapped lips and mouth (I’ve got one who licks his lips constantly…tell me I’m not the only one!), sunburn, sore skin from wiping runny noses, leg massage for growing pains, finger burns from accidentally touching something hot, diaper rash, after-bath skincare, and deep moisture for helping heal cuts or scrapes….the list is almost endless. Even today, we are still finding new uses for everyday issues!
We started to share our incredible experience with friends and family, and soon we were handing out samples so others could get some help for their skin problems. One thing led to another, and based on the overwhelming positive feedback we received, we realized that we could share the work of our hands with more than just the people that we knew…we wanted to share it with you.
How it’s going…
Today, we are so pleased to present to you our family of tallow products, all made with local, 100% grass-fed/grass-finished tallow that has absolutely zero GMOs or chemicals involved in it’s rearing. This is extremely important to us and we are thrilled to be able to support our local community at the same time!
All of our products continue to be handcrafted in small batches with premium natural ingredients, all of which you can clearly pronounce — and even count on one hand!
Absolutely zero plastic is used in the refining or production process since we don’t want any harmful chemicals accidentally leeching into our skin!
In addition to our Mama’s Original Lavender & Vanilla balm, we expanded our family of products to include Papa’s Signature Cedar & Sandalwood balm, as well as Baby’s Best Lemon Balm & Chamomile balm, and even a Simply Unscented blend for those of you who just want the benefits of tallow in it’s simplest form. It’s hard to pick a favorite around here! (Not for my husband, though…Mama’s Original is his ride-or-die!)
We are so happy to say that our business is still truly a family affair! It would not be possible for us to extend this great solution to you without the support of our parents and the expertise of those closest to us.
